Arthur Brancart was the inventor of Marbrite, a kind of tinted glass which became widely used in Art Deco. Starting in 1915, he built an entire village around his glassworks factory in Fauquez, Belgium. More than 1000 workers, from Flanders and all over Europe, helped to spread the reputation of that factory, until it closed in 1972. In this documentary, we hear from Lucien Brancart, the last Master Glazier at the factory, and the grandson of the founder, as well as from surviving workers. We hear from them an account of the rise of the glassworks and of Arthur Brancart’s paternalist approach to organizing the lives of his workers there.
