Oudlajan is the name of one of the oldest historic neighborhoods in Tehran, Iran, dating back 500 years or more. Most of the people who lived in Oudlajan were of Jewish ancestry, but Zoroastrians also lived there. Moreover, many of the most famous Iranian politicians—such as those of the Qavam family, of the Mostofi family, of the Nasiroldoleh family, and of the Seyyed Hassan Modarres family—lived in Oudlajan. The houses there featured many rooms, surrounding internal courtyards, with small pools in the middle of each courtyard. This style of house design was called the Ghamar Khanoom style. Today, much of this district is in disrepair, so opinions are divided about whether to restore it or tear it down.
